Training

HSC is an RYA Recognised Training Centre and we have a vibrant training section providing both on-the-water and shore-based RYA courses.  These courses are usually run using our own RYA-qualified instructors and are aimed at HSC members, however temporary membership is usually an option for short courses.

Recreational Sailing
Mondays 6-9pm (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th July),
Fridays 2-5pm (10th, 17th, 24th July)

We will be running recreational sailing sessions throughout July - these sessions provide safety cover on the water for those who can already sail, but who would like the added comfort of a safety boat nearby.

You can use your own boat, or one of the club's dinghies:

Feva - double handed boat suitable for one adult, one child or two older children (age 13+)

Pico - single or double handed boat suitable for children or one adult, one child

Laser2000 - family-sized boat suitable for up to two adults, 2 children.  Minimum 1 adult, 1 child

Sailqube (Optimist) - the best boat for younger children - suitable for one or two smaller children (age 9-12 approx)

The minimum sailing ability required is RYA Level 1 (for adults) or RYA Stage 2 (for children under 16) or equivalent ability.  This means that you should be able to rig a boat, launch and recover the boat and right a capsize by yourself as no instruction is provided at these sessions.  A safety boat will be on the water and the session will be supervised by an RYA Senior Instructor.  You will need to have your own personal sailing kit including buoyancy aid, wetsuit, suitable footwear, waterproof jacket/spray top.  The RYA Senior Instructor will have the final decision on whether the weather is suitable for the session and may impose a higher ability requirement according to conditions.  The session may be cut short if the weather deteriorates.  A one-off free registration will be required for each sailor.  To register, please click here.  Booking in advance will be required for each session to ensure we have appropriate safety cover for the number of boats/people attending.  Please note that an adult must remain on site if their child (under 12) is sailing.  For older children a phone number must be provided on the registration form that is valid for the duration of the session. To book, or for any questions, please email training.  All payments must be made by BACS in advance of the session - details will be provided on booking.

Each year in the school summer holidays we run a summer week.  This week is not all about working towards certificates (although we do that too!), we also play lots of games, have a fun regatta and a sail-away day with a picnic lunch.  This week is usually in high demand and members will be given priority.
