Our team of RYA instructors can provide a wide range of RYA training courses for both sail and power.  These include Stages 1-4 of the Youth Sailing Scheme, Levels 1-3 of the National Dinghy Scheme, Advanced Modules of the National Dinghy Sailing Scheme, Powerboat Levels 1&2, Safety Boat Certificate and First Aid.  Courses are aimed at HSC members, however temporary membership is usually an option for short courses.

Susan Miskelly took over the role of Principal and Rear Commodore Training from Sarah Jeffrey at the end of the 2018 season. We extend a huge thank you to both of them. The club has been fortunate to have two such experienced and dedicated members in this important role.

Monday Nights Improvers

This season 22 children attended on Monday evenings with the aim of improving their sailing. Congratulations go to all of our junior sailors who achieved Stages 3 and 4 and to those who went on to achieve some of the advanced modules of the National Dinghy Sailing Scheme.  Well done!

Tuesday Nights Beginners

On Tuesday evenings this year we had 12 junior sailors working towards stages 1 and 2.  Having such a small group ensured a great student-to-instructor ratio and lots of progress was made.  Well done to all of those children who achieved their Stage 1  or 2 this season. We look forward to welcoming you all back next year!

Summer Week

This year, 18 of our young members signed up for the week-long summer camp where the club’s instructor team guided them through their RYA Stages and led them on day-long adventures cruising around the Gareloch "Swallows and Amazons" style.  They had picnics on the beach, did some wild swimming, participated in a regatta and played ‘how many kids does it take to sink an Oppie?’ (The answer: 18!!).

We were delighted to welcome two new helpers this year - Ava Kerr and Robbie Littlefield - we look forward to working with them to help them achieve their Assistant Instructor Qualification.

A special thank you must go to all of our HSC Instructors. Training couldn't happen without them all so a huge thank you!
