The completion of 2016 Training at HSC sees a milestone with the retiral, after 20 years in the role, of Chris Jones - Principal of our Training Establishment and Rear Commodore (Training). Thanks to Chris from the club, and on behalf of the hundreds of students who have learned their skills on his watch. And a warm welcome to Sarah Jeffrey as successor to Chris. Sarah, our Senior Instructor for several years, brings a wealth of experience and we all wish her well in this new role.

Monday Nights

This year we saw more enthusiastic sailors coming through the programme. With a warm start in May the students began learning their new stages. Congratulations go to the complete novices - Alistair George, Jessica George, Liam McKenzie and Rory McLean - who all achieved their Stage 1 certificates, and Lucy McLean for achieving her Stage 1 & 2. Ava Kerr and Scott Kennedy achieved their Stage 2. The intermediate sailors - Fabio Giarchi and Callum Sumsion - achieved their stage 2 and 3 and Thomas Forsyth and Jason Rae completed their Stage 4.

Thursday Race Training

Jo and Robbie Littlefield both completed their Stage 4 and Start Racing. Alasdair McCartney and Ewan McCartney who joined us at the second part of the season also completed Stage 4 and Start Racing. Gemma Rae, Sorcha Hicks, Ben Malcolm and Iona Symon had already received their Start Racing certificates last year and achieved some of their Seamanship skills this year.

Junior Trophies

The Junior Trophy racing was held on Sunday 6th November which was very chilly for our young sailors but they all made it on to the water. The forecast was very gusty and conditions were sometimes challenging with a few capsizes. Well done to Eilidh McQueen for winning the Junior Trophy and to Calum Bell for winning the Hirta Trophy.

Instructors

Congratulations go to Jenny Abraham who passed the RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor course, to Iain Kennedy, Chris Allwood and Adam Forsyth who all passed the RYA Dinghy Instructor course and to Sarah Robertson who has qualified as an RYA Assistant Dinghy Instructor.

Of course no training can take place without the instructors:  Chris Jones (Principal), Sarah Jeffrey (Senior Instructor) Jennifer Abraham (Senior Instructor) David Abraham, Iain Kennedy, Chris Allwood, Adam Forsyth, Georgia MacLeod, Calum Bell, Hannah White, Sarah Robertson, James Forsyth and Grace Laverty - thanks to them all!
